How to Treat Acrylic?

Acrylic fibres are man made, produced from a petrochemical: acrylonitrile. The latter is usually mixed with other chemicals to enhance the fibre’s ability of absorbing beautiful dyes. Acrylic fibres are flexible and dry quickly. They are quite often blended with other fabric fibres, depending on the type of the garment. Acrylic is also very versatile. The good thing is that acrylic does not shrink and maintains its shape.

Due to acrylic’s ability to move moisture from the skin to outside the fabric, acrylic is a good option for sportswear. You can use it for a variety of garments, like sweaters, socks, fleeces and a range of other clothing. It is a wool like material.

How to wash acrylic?

You should first check the fabric label on the garment before washing, since the fibre combinations can be different. You should certainly turn the garments inside out before laundering to avoid pilling. The temperature of the water should be no higher than 30 degrees.

How to iron and store acrylic fabrics?

If the garment requires ironing, then use a moderately warm iron, but, of course, always refer to the garment’s fabric care label for the right treatment. Store your acrylic and acrylic based fabrics in a dry place out of direct sunlight.

Since every garment has its own personality and a unique story to tell. So read that story before washing any type of fabrics.
